Last night we had our first real snow event in about three years. It was a long time coming! Almost two inches of snow fell with lots of sleet on top. That makes for a difficult situation when flowers are concerned. I have quite a lot of cold hardy annuals in the ground such as sweet peas, larkspur, saponaria, snapdragons, orlaya, nigella, and sweet Willliam. Those varieties are very hardy and can withstand the cold as well as snow/ice. However, my ranunculus are a little more sensitive to the winter conditions. However, so far, the hoops/frost cloth have kept them thriving...now just a couple more months to baby these babies! I love winter and all it brings but do get quite excited thinking about spring flowers!
